The language development component of the IBCP core aims to ensure that students have access to, and are exposed to a language programme that will assist and further their understanding of the wider world.
Students are able to select any language they feel would be beneficial for them to learn to help them with their career in the future. Duolingo can be used to support students language learning and students will have 1 timetabled period per week to complete their language portfolio and language based tasks.
Language choice could also include sign language or braille.
Language development aims to achieve the following:
enable students to understand the language in context of their career path
encourage awareness and appreciation of the different perspectives of people from other cultures
provide the opportunity for enjoyment, creativity and intellectual stimulation through knowledge of an additional language
Language developed ia a non examined course. Students experience learning a language that is useful to them in their career path and show evidence through a range of portfolio activities that are completed and documented throughout the course.
