The Diploma Support (DipSup) exists as a choice for students where they can receive support for their learning needs, with specific emphasis being placed on study, coursework, organisation and the reinforcement of skills. This additional support is provided to students who are studying either the IBCP or BTEC programme and will look different for each student.
Places are reserved for students who are already in the Strategies for School (S4S) programme. The programme is suitable for students with a demonstrated history of learning need that requires the continuation of support in Years 12 and 13. If students have not taken S4S, access to Diploma Support is therefore dependent on a review of their learning history, feedback from their teachers, and baseline assessment data.
Timetable availability is also a consideration as the number of sessions is largely based on student need as some may require only one session in a 7-day cycle whilst others may require up to three sessions.
What does the Diploma Support have to offer students?
Small Class Size to benefit from focused and targeted support
Guidance with coursework
Opportunities to develop and reinforce self-management skills to manage deadlines, organise notes, plan projects and assignments
Assistance with unpicking the requirements of tasks into step-by-step format, rephrasing information, and reviewing technical vocabulary
Guidance to enhance their self-awareness to refine strategies to match their individual learning preference
Time to review writing skills
Space to consolidate revision strategies
Students who have a demonstrated and history of learning needs will be assessed for IB exam access arrangements that may include extra time, use of word processor, supervised breaks, prompter, and separate room.
