We offer the CHINESE LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE A course at HL or SL. This is suitable for students who took the 1st language course in Year 11 or students transferred from local Chinese school. The Chinese Faculty will help with guidance in this area. Students taking this course and an English A course will be awarded the IB Bilingual diploma.
As with the English A course, this programme combines the study of language and culture as well as language and media. Students will also study 6 literature texts at Higher and 4 at Standard. Aspects of the course include:
The close critical examination of a variety of texts including visual images
An awareness of how subtle variations in language use can affect meaning and tone
The development of a personal critical voice
The highlighting of different readings and interpretations
The development of personal judgement.
The analysis of language and literature and how it can affect our thinking
Developing in students an understanding of how language, culture and context determine the ways in which meaning is constructed in texts
Encouraging students to think critically about the different interactions between text, audience and purpose
We use the same exam framework as the English Language and Literature
