The BTEC International Level 3 National Diploma (Major) and Subsidiary Diploma (Minor) in Business provides the knowledge, understanding and skills for students wishing to enter a career in business. The course is designed to offer students a specialized programme of study so as to advance their career opportunities within a specific business area.
It provides students with the opportunity to achieve a nationally recognized qualification. The course provides progression to higher education such as a Higher National Certificate (HND) or Diploma or a degree programme. Alternatively students may progress to employment and professional qualifications.
Course Outline The BTEC L3 Subsidiary Diploma is made up of 5 units, with a combination of core (mandatory) and specialist units that give a total of 360 credits.

Entry Requirements Minimum of 4 (I)GCSEs at grade A*-C or equivalent. Students will need to have a good level of numeracy with a good standard of written communication skills.
Assessment All units will be internally assessed using a variety of methods such as case studies, investigative and project-based assignments, presentations, speakers, plus visits to businesses and work placements. Units will be individually graded as pass, merit and distinction. Distinction* can be achieved if enough points are gathered across the units.
Work Placement Students on the International Diploma will undertake practical work experience in a business of their choice. The practical element of this course allows students to put their business knowledge into practice through developing skills, for example, customer service, human resource management or project management. Through work-based learning, students are able to meet the required assessment criteria within their assignments.
Future Pathways Studying business allows students to develop a broad and balanced set of employability skills such as teamwork, leadership, communication, problem solving and critical thinking. The quantitative elements of the course allow the students to apply their numeracy skills to practical situations whilst also improving their literacy through written coursework. Students will also have opportunities to present their work through a wide range of different methods, allowing them to harness their creativity through a variety of different media types.
Students often go on to study related degrees such as Business Management, International Business, Finance, Accounting or Marketing. Many WIS Business Alumni have then gone on to secure successful careers in industries such as banking, finance, accounting, management consultancy and law.
